Before going on to the holiday stuff again thought I would quickly mention something food related. Yesterday afternoon my wife fancied Indian food (tandoori chicken to be exact) for dinner so we went out to a local Indian restaurant tucked away in the corner of a strip mall in town. I had the chicken tikka masala, my wife her tandoori chicken and some naan bread. It was actually pretty damn good, a little bit spicy (not that much though, we only had the medium) but tons of flavour. We've never been huge fans of Indian food but this was very good, we must go again sometime.
Anyway, after that small diversion on to something else. As I briefly mentioned yesterday, my wife and I did get one day mostly to ourselves away from my parents. We simply explored the mountains and lakes in the area, visiting 3 different lakes if I recall correctly as well as driving all around mount bachelor just outside of Bend. We also did some good shopping in the morning. I think we could quite easily live somewhere near Bend, it is very spread out. The surprising thing is that it felt nowhere near as crowded as the place where we currently live despite the fact that the population of the two places is just about the same. If I could find work up there to support us I would move us there in an instant. Plenty of quiet areas around, not too many noisy people, lots of open space, real seasons including a summer which isn't too hot (it was 25 to 28 C every day we were there) and a surprising lack of chavs. It was really nice seeing my wife happy and relaxed on that one day we had alone up there (other than the driving there and back that is). If we lived around somewhere like that it makes me smile to think how happy she could be all the time.
