A long way

Well the trip down to San Diego was a success. We got there with no real problems and only a little traffic through LA and to our hotel fine. Then a decent dinner in the evening with my lovely wife at the hotel and off to the room to watch SGA on blu ray. Ahh the wonder of my wife making sure I had the HDMI cable with my laptop so we could hook it up to the TV in the room (which for once was on a nice swivel mount on the wall so we could watch from bed easily). Clearly my wife thought of most things, we had pack lunch on the way down, all the wash stuff we needed and clothes to spare. Unfortunately my wife didn't remember everything for herself as we found out when we had a shower but for a 2 day trip we did remember to bring a lot of things.

As for the zoo itself it is pretty damn big. We managed to be the 3rd people in line to see the baby panda at the opening and that only took 40 minutes of queueing and getting there 45 minutes before the place opened. When we got there there was maybe 30 cars in the car park. When we left later that afternoon the car park was full and had easily a thousand plus cars in it. Astounding how busy that place gets. It was all worth it though since the panda was incredibly cute. Not anywhere as near as cute as my wife but still. Definitely something you are not going to see more than once in your life unless you are lucky. If you think that the panda was only on display for just over a week before we got there we timed this trip incredibly well since we were planning on going even before we knew the baby panda was going to be shown.

The rest of the zoo had a lot of animals on show. We took a bus ride for 40 minutes around it, saw far too many animals to list but the polar bears were great and they had a lot of big cats in various places. Not to mention some animals we have never seen before. The only real downside to the trip was the fact that the zoo is on various hills and requires a lot of walking. Both of us had tired legs at the end of it but my wife did extremely well with it all. Very proud of her handling the crowds and steepness of the walking.

So now I get to do yet more work, things didn't slow down it seems and I have stupid piles of stuff to do. Oh well, just glad I got to go somewhere with my wife and enjoy it with her. Even the driving of 450 miles each way was nice and easy with her with me.
