Going to have to deal with some traffic next week. Normally I can commute at times where traffic isn't too bad but next week I need to spend 4 days in San Francisco for a training course on a code analysis tool we use so I can create more stringent analysis of our code and catch more issues before they become bugs customers discover. Unfortunately this course runs 9am to 5pm which sucks for my usual work day of 5:45am ish to 2:30pm. I really don't see the advantage in forcing a fixed 9 to 5 work day that some companies have, it will be interesting to see how many other people are on the course and what kind of work times they expect. So few technology companies enforce a strict time in the office, we simply have a requirement that you do the correct amount of rough hours and be in the office during the main period of the day. This is especially useful since we have offices in several time zones so it helps to create some overlap between most of them.
The worst part about this course thing? I will not see my wife much at all. If I try to drive there and back each day then I'll get barely any time. If I stay near the place where the course is I won't see her until Thursday evening when I get back. Bloody annoying. Nice that the company is willing to spend this money on me, I just wish they would get a move on and move me and my wife.
As an aside it is funny to see an uptick in traffic to a certain blog post that always has had the most views now that Nigella Lawson is on a TV show again. The search terms used to find it are very definite about what people are interested in :| .
Oh well, time to get on with some more work. Lots of fun ripping apart other peoples code at the moment since a lot of development is getting finished up and heading in to test. With the new ways I'll have of using this code tool I'll be able to automate some of that as well. Automated telling other people how stupid they are, how much more fun do you need?
