Normally I smell a bit. Part of being a man I suppose and something the cats seem to really like about me :| . My wife though always smells really good, to me the most. At the moment though she is on some antibiotics for chronic sinus problems and the cats are treating her differently. To me she smells exactly the same but something about her has changed enough that the cats are unsure of her, so much of their affinity to us is based on our smell it seems. The only one who is immune seems to be Fudge, the real mummy's boy of the cats given how young he was when we picked him up and how he latched on to my wife right away.
It makes me wonder what it would be like to discern smells as much as cats do. Be able to tell things from smell and just have that heightened sense they have. I'm not sure how useful it would be but to be able to experience it would be interesting I think. It would give me new ways to appreciate my wife. Being able to rely on it more than I do right now and maybe even find more smells pleasant that the surprising number of bad smelling things in the world that I can currently smell.
Just a strange thought I had today I thought I would share. It would be cool to experience new things like that.
