Just did another of the regular rebuild of our littlest ones huge palace of a living quarters. For a member of the smallest species of hamster Andy has probably more habitat stuff than the vast majority of normal size hamsters. Despite that though she really seems to enjoy what she has, when she is awake she runs around the tunnels we build for her going to various places. Sure she uses her wheel for hours on end but she will also wander around doing whatever it is that hamsters do (eat, store food, pee and poop mostly it seems).
The one consistent thing seems to be her nest. More often than not it is in some little covered den area where she can drag a ton of bedding in with her and have just an Andy size hole to sleep in. Some times she has made a bed in one of the tunnels which has been strange, you can see her sleeping, with bedding either side of her, in a coloured transparent tunnel. Although when she is sleeping she basically becomes a ball of hamster almost perfectly round, a literal hamster ball herself.
Now if only someone could invent self cleaning hamster habitats then all the tedious washing and drying of so much hamster habitat could be so much easier. It seriously take an hour or two to get it all disassembled, washed, dried and reassembled. I'm just thankful we finally found a quiet wheel for her to run in, her first couple were bloody noisy once she got up to speed. She is fast for something so tiny so the amount of wobbling she can produce on her habitat is quite large with the velocity that the wheel reaches. Sleeping through that is hard.
