Icky things

Manged to totally gross out my wife and make her shriek like a girl yesterday afternoon. It was totally accidental and just shows that sometimes things happen that you don't see coming. Getting home from work I brought in the rubbish bins as I do every Monday. The garden rubbish bin goes around the side of the house and getting there involves going through a small path with a bush to one side. The bush kind of sticks in to the path so you sometimes brush against it when going past it.

So after having done this, gone inside, put the shopping away and then went in to the bedroom where my wife was reading and saying hello it had been a good 5 to 10 minutes. At one point my wife then saw something on my shirt and tried to brush it off. It was then she realised it was icky and moving. Looking at it we noticed it to be a caterpillar and it was then that my wife shrieked. I managed to get it off of me, it being just behind my left shoulder, and put it outside. Since I had been sitting on the bed with my wife we then quickly checked the bed to make sure no more where there and satisfied there were none thought it was all over.

But no. A minute later I noticed yet another caterpillar walking up the front of my shirt. Another quick dash outside to remove it was required and I then went inside and removed my shirt to make sure no more of the little buggers were about. Satisfied I was all clear, including the trousers I had been wearing, a trip outside was required to see where these so and sos had come from. Looking at the bush I suspected they came from confirmed my suspicion. It was covered in them, I saw a dozen of them immediately all just sitting there not doing much. A little internet searching later showed them to be genista caterpillars that like to eat that particular type of bush so we will need to get some pesticide to deal with them.

Still it shows what random icky things you just come across when you are totally not expecting it. They even freaked me out a little since I was totally not aware two of them were on my shirt and god knows where they would have gone if not stopped. Thankfully we can deal with them even if the pest exterminate won't.
